New Year Greetings

New Year’s card design (2019) Our days in the Netherlands: common activities and growth of each – Our lives in the Netherlands. Never bore us!

For this year’s New Year’s card, I tried to express the activities that each of us had challenged and experienced in the past year, using the “Venn diagram” that I learned in mathematics when I was a student.

2019 New Year Card Design

This year, my third year in the Netherlands, I was quite confused about what to write as my New Year’s card message. Each of the three members of my family has established their own lifestyles and activities, and it was difficult to narrow down the message to one common message. Also, when I looked at my son, he experienced and challenged many things in the past year, and it was difficult to narrow down his message. So, I asked myself, “Why don’t I express all of these experiences and challenges? And “How can we make a single design for our family’s New Year’s card? As a result, I decided to use a Venn diagram, which I learned in math class when I was a student.

Son: In addition to piano and reading, which I have continued to do, I have become addicted to various forms of entertainment such as juggling, Rubik’s Cube, and magic tricks.

Wife: When I came to the Netherlands, I discovered a new dance called “UK Jazz Dance”. We enjoyed every lesson with a Japanese teacher and even performed on stage.

Husband: Work, work, work. I worked hard.

Tennis: This is the common denominator between my son and wife. My wife plays five times a week in heavy rotation, and my son has improved by continuing to play with soccer.

Football: It is the common denominator between my son and my husband. They belonged to the same team and worked hard as children (U12) and adults (U50) respectively.

Board games: the common denominator for my husband and wife. Until last year, it was the common denominator for all three of us in the family, including our son, but as our son grew up, his interest in board games faded and it became a hobby for him and his wife. Even now, my son sometimes joins us for a game.

Watching football: This is the common denominator for the three of us in our family. Living in Europe inspired my husband to start playing football and my wife to become interested in it. We were able to watch the game on TV as well as live in stadiums in the Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal, and Belgium.

The Chinese zodiac sign for 2019 is the wild boar, so I decided to write the words “BORE” (boring) and “BOAR” (wild boar).
